Childbirth classes are a great way to prepare for birth, even if this isn't your first. Several doulas and childbirth educators in the LV offer classes that can prepare you for your homebirth, please see the resources page for a list. Lactation consultation & breastfeeding classes are now being referred to Keystone Lactation. I also recommend La Leche League meetings, which you can find in most areas. For more resources, visit my resources page.
Consuming one's placenta has numerous benefits, which is why all mammals consume their placentas immediately after birth. It helps to balance hormone levels, which drop drastically after birth, therefore reducing the chance of postpartum depression, it helps to increase milk supply, it replaces lost iron from postpartum bleeding and it gives a very nice energy boost!
Most placentas yield around 150-200 capsules (I use 100% high quality vegan capsules). Placenta encapsulation also includes one 4oz bottle of placenta tincture, which is a tincture made from your placenta that is preserved in organic vodka and can be consumed later when having menstrual difficulties or during menopause (yes, it lasts that long!). I can usually get your pills back to you within 2-3 days. The fee for homebirth clients is $150.
Birthing at home, surrounded by those you choose, and in the continuous care of a midwife, can provide an optimal birthing environment for the majority of healthy people experiencing normal pregnancies. For the vast majority, pregnancy, birth and breastfeeding are normal, natural functions of life. While these are physical events, the effects of the mind, spirit and emotions of the woman, as well as those closest to her and at the birth, cannot be underestimated. Since Pennsylvania homebirth midwives are not offered licensure, we rarely are able to work directly with insurance. Many families are able to get at least partial reimbursement though, so I strongly recommend submitting after the birth to at least attempt to get reimbursed. I will supply you with a superbill, which is an itemized invoice including all the coding that the insurance company needs. I offer payment plans, discounts and am open to bartering, as I want to make homebirth affordable to everyone.

Most bloodwork and testing is covered by insurance, but if you don't have insurance, my labs offer very reasonable rates.
